Meet The Parents; And Aunt

Read the poem carefully and answer the questions that follow. Given time: 7 minutes.

Meet The Parents; And Aunt

Yesterday,
I [coughing] went there.
I went to [cough-cough] her house.
Along with me was a pack of putu halba:
bought on my way there.

Just to think about meeting her parents for the first time
gives me the chill [shivering],
and yet I was to meet them.
What the heck was I thinking!
[coughing]

The waiting for the putu halba to be done
And the seven minutes journey was felt
like an eternity.

At the gate,
There she stood; smiling,
with her father only a yard away
And her mother approached
From her aunt’s house.
Her aunt. [cough]

The cacti,
The food and the drinks,
The zam-zam and the dates and the zabit and the pistachios,
And the questions and the facts and the stories,
And the laughs.

I left the house: relieved.

Questions:
1.What is the poem about?
2.What season is it by the existence of putu halba abundantly?
3.What can you understand from the sentence:
“The zam-zam and the dates and the zabit and the pistachios”?

1. The poem is about a boy(Ceroh) who is going to visit the house of his better half will be and he will be meeting her in laws will be as well.

2. I dont know but I think it is monsoon season because you coughed a lot and you shivered at least one.

3. Someone from her family might just return from the holy land. For 3umrah ithink coz hajj season is yet to come. Or is it you? Or maybe it was an 3aqiqah or belah mulut.

1. the poem is about a boy who suffers 'batuk2'.. he is confused.. he should go and buy 'ubat batuk cap susu dan anak' or 'ubat batuk cap kelapa laut afrika' to relieve his 'batuk2'.. however, he used the money to buy some 'putu halba' in order to buy the heart of the his parents' sweetheart. maybe he doesn't suffer from 'batuk2' at all.. he just [cough] to make himself look more macho and hid his nervousness..

2. season? it is holiday season.. when students studying in uni can go back to their respective 'kampung' and they can buy their own favourite 'putu halba'

3. her aunt.. perhaps someone from the girl's aunt's house just come back from holy land mecca.. and brought some zam-zam and dates and pistachious.. and the guy i think will be quite annoyed by that as all those food are much more mouth watering than his putu halba.. it's ok.. you can always try next time.. and you don't have to be worried about the food that you bought, whether she likes it or not, or whether the parents like it or not.. it is YOU that is counts.. if they like you, they will like everthing from you..

i make a du'a so that majlis makan2 nasi minyak will come in near future, amin. and i hope they'll be putu halba as well on that day.eheh.
